This year's party will be held at the Maplewood Golf & Country Club in Renton. Details to come. *** 2011 *** June 2011 - Western States Loop Ride. It's never too early to start thinking about next year! So, I'm putting together a ride that will cover 4800 miles in 15-16 days covering 11 states and 14,264 feet altitude. We'll start the ride heading over to Raymond then bearing south down the coast following the 101 from Astoria to the Redwoods in California. There we'll cut east through Lassen Volcanic National Park, Tahoe and Yosemite before heading to Zion National Park. We'll stay there for a couple of days to see the park plus Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks National Monument. After Zion we'll continue east picking up the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Glen Canyon Dam/Bridge and the dual Navajo Bridges before heading to Monument Valley, Four Corners then onto Ouray with a stop in Durango. Ouray will be our second two night stop to visit the area including Telluride. From Ouray, still heading east, we'll hit the first of two 14,000 peaks being Pikes Peak at 14,110 ft. After Pikes Peak it's off to Mt. Evans and the highest point in the USA you can drive to at 14,264 ft. We'll stay a couple of nights at Estes Park then head north over Beartooth Pass before heading west and home. * May or July 2011 - Iron Butt Ride. I'll be pulling together a 1500 mile ride to knock off the "SaddleSore 1000" and "Bun Burner 1500" for anyone interested in doing nothing more than sitting on your butt for 36 hours. See the IBA website for details.
The ride will be done in two
phases combining the
1000 miles in the first 24 hours (SaddleSore 1000)
then banging out the remaining 500 in day 2 to
complete the Bun Burner 1500. We'll depart ESHD at
6AM bearing east to Silver Bow, MT via I-90, hook up
to I-15 south to Idaho Falls then I-86 and I-84
west to Mountain Home, ID. This will complete day 1
banging out roughly 1025 miles, gets us in around
11pm and we'll can bunk there. Day 2 takes us back
on I-84 all the way up to I-90 then home. Total
coverage is 1558 miles and we should be home by 4pm.
Stay tuned for more info.
